Michael came to grading through a long history of being an online editor. The rise of the use of Non Linear Editing (Avid) in online suites meant an opportunity for online editors to grade programmes which was practically impossible in tape suites.
As Avid Symphony became the de facto online tool, Michael started out grading programmes in Symphony as part of the finishing process. He relished the chance to offer a creative contribution to the programmes he worked on at a time when budgets often didn't stretch to a 'proper' grade.
After many years grading in Symphony, Michael graduated to Filmlight's Baselight in 2007, quickly incorporating the additional tools Baselight offers into his repertoire. Running a Baselight suite within a facility lead to a great deal of experience with Baselight's Avid workflows. He has also used Filmlight's 'Baselight Editions' plug in within Avid to grade a number of shows with great results.
Recently, Michael has started to work on the Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve system which has proved to be very effective.
Most of his work has been on long-form documentaries/docudrama along with a number of commercials. In the last couple of years he has been working on light entertainment and comedy/drama shows. Go to the Recent Credits page to see a showreel and for a list of what he's been working on lately!
